Welcome to The Lion at Ickleton

A Community Owned Freehouse

Welcome to The Lion!

The Lion at Ickleton is a community-owned pub and restaurant nestled on the Cambridgeshire, Essex border. We serve seasonal food, well-kept ales and a warm welcome.

Proudly reopened in 2025, we’re at the heart of village life, close to the Wellcome Genome Campus at Hinxton and just a short journey from Saffron Walden and Imperial War Museum Duxford.

Close to the ancient Icknield Way and right on National Cycle Route 11, we’re a welcoming stop for walkers and cyclists exploring the local countryside. Cycle racks are conveniently located by the garden, and muddy boots are always welcome.

Whether you’re enjoying a pint in our sunny garden, warming up beside the fire or gathering with friends and family over a meal,  you’ll find a relaxed atmosphere and a genuinely friendly welcome.

We’re passionate about supporting local breweries and regularly feature a changing selection of guest ales alongside our permanent favourites.

Got a beer you’d like to see on the bar? We’d love to hear your suggestions.
