Building community at The Lion – with help from Pub is the Hub

At our next Community Café on Friday 24th October, we’re excited to welcome Terry Stork, a special guest from the national organisation Pub is The Hub.
Pub is The Hub is a wonderful not-for-profit organisation offering free specialist expertise to publicans on rural services diversification and activities ensuring pubs remain at the heart of their communities.  The organisation was founded by His Majesty King Charles III, when he was HRH the Prince of Wales in 2001. Since 2013, the organisation has been able to offer small grants through its Community Services Fund to help pubs develop new services and activities such as community cafés, village stores and allotments.
We’re very grateful to have received a grant from Pub is The Hub, which allowed us to purchase our fantastic coffee machine, along with cups, saucers, teapots, sugar bowls and cutlery – all of which helped us get our café up and running.
Since opening, the response to our café has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s been lovely to see so many friendly faces enjoying coffee, cake and a chat together. We’re really looking forward to welcoming Terry to see the café in action and to showcase all the hard work our volunteers have put in to make it a success.
At the moment, the café runs on a monthly basis, but we’d love to open more often. To do that, we just need a few more volunteers to join our friendly team – even a small commitment makes a big difference!  To find out what’s involved, drop an email to volunteer@icplimited.org.uk or come along and speak to one of our cafe volunteers.
If you haven’t tried the café yet, we will be open again on Friday 24th October from 9.30am to 11.15am, serving delicious coffee, teas and home-baked cakes (the selection changes each time, though our Victoria sponge is already a firm favourite!). It’s the perfect way to start your morning, meet friends and neighbours and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of your community pub.
We look forward to seeing you there!
