DESCRIPTION:After a brilliant turnout last year\, Oktoberfest is back at The Lion this Saturday – and this year it’s going to be even bigger and better! \n\nSaturday 3rd October from 2pm until late \nWe’ve got live music from 2pm with Jess & Dec\, Andy Phoenyx and Roadkill Pizza\, a fantastic selection of beers from local breweries and the BBQ fired up with sausages galore – don’t miss it!\n\n\nHere’s a taste of what we will have on offer from just some of the brilliant breweries we’ll be showcasing at the weekend…(don’t worry non-beer drinkers we’ll have plenty of options for you too!)\n\n\nKeeping things properly local\, Papworth Brewery is based in Earith\, Cambridgeshire and brews ‘deliciously drinkable ales’. We’ll be pouring one of their more unusual creations – Koura (5.7%)\, a strong\, golden wheat beer with a delicate banana aroma and sweet tropical fruit flavours\, finished with Wai-Iti hops for a hit of zesty citrus.\n\n\nJust down the road in Bishop’s Stortford\, The Belgian Brewer brews without any chemicals\, flavour enhancers or animal derived products. We’ll have their Pilsner (4.8%) – crisp\, clean and easy-drinking\, with hints of lemongrass and a low bitterness\, alongside their Oktoberfest Bier (4.5%)\, a limited-edition brew made especially for Oktoberfest.  Rude not to\, really.\n\n\n\nIndependent Norfolk brewery Wolf Brewery has been brewing since 1995\, and we’ve picked two rather different beers for you to try. Straw Dog (4.5%) is a refreshing German-style wheat beer with a hint of citrus and a gently sweet finish.

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November\, Ickleton Unwrapped brings together the village’s venues and community groups for a weekend celebrating local talent\, creativity\, food and produce. \nOrganised jointly by The Lion\, Ickleton Social Club and St Mary Magdalene Church\, it’s the first event in this year’s Advent in Ickleton programme\, with activities and attractions across four village venues. \nAt The Lion\, you can enjoy mulled wine\, seasonal food and an outdoor food market packed with delicious treats and ideas for Christmas gifts. \nThere will be festive food served from 12-6pm on Saturday – if you’ve found yourself a cosy corner\, then stay into the evening for our usual menu\, or return on Sunday for one of our delicious traditional roasts. With a cosy pub\, a warming fire and twinkling lights\, it will be the perfect place to meet friends and enjoy good food. \nThere’s plenty more to explore around the village too. \nThe Village Hall will host a fabulaous craft market featuring handmade gifts\, decorations\, jewellery and goodies from local makers. \nAt Ickleton Social Club\, discover more than 140 works of art by local artists\, meet and chat with local authors\, take a break at Trevor’s Café and celebrate the launch of the Ickleton Jotters’ first anthology on Saturday afternoon at 4pm. \nAt St Mary Magdalene Church\, marvel at the nationally significant wall paintings\, enjoy free Fresco Fun activities and a workshop with a professional conservator\, or book a place to make a lino-printed Christmas card. DESCRIPTION:After a great response to our free Arts & Crafts sessions over the summer\, we’re delighted that Introduction to Sketching with Chrissie Wild will be continuing every Tuesday evening from 7-8pm \nWhether you’ve always fancied having a go at drawing or haven’t picked up a pencil since school\, everyone is welcome. It’s free to join and you don’t need any previous experience\, skills or artistic talent – that’s rather the point! \nMaterials are provided\, although if you already have a sketchbook and drawing pencils\, feel free to bring them along. \nCome on your own or bring a friend\, grab a drink and spend an hour having a go at something creative in a relaxed\, friendly setting. \nPlease just drop us an email if you plan to come along so we can let Chrissie know to expect you.

Whether it’s greeting visitors\, serving cake\, clearing tables or learning to make coffee\, every little bit helps. \nNo experience needed\, just a friendly face and a little time to spare.
